methods for detaching event listener from bootstrap carousel indicator elements

I am currently utilizing the bootstrap5 carousel feature and I am seeking a way to trigger a custom event when either the previous or next indicators are clicked. My goal is to stop the default bootstrap event from being triggered, however my attempts at various techniques have not been successful.

If anyone has experience with this issue and knows how to resolve it, your input would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance

Answer №1

For detailed guidance, refer to the official documentation which includes various event listeners that can be incorporated into your JavaScript code.

Remember to integrate either the Bootstrap CDN or npm module containing the necessary JavaScript for the functionality to be operational.

Bootstrap Documentation

Illustrative Example

const myCarousel = document.querySelector("#myCarousel");
const carousel = new bootstrap.Carousel(myCarousel, { interval: 2500 });

myCarousel.addEventListener("slide.bs.carousel", () => { /* Implement desired actions... */ });

Answer №2

Have you experimented with calling e.stopPropagation() or e.stopImmediatePropagation()?

Answer №3

After some troubleshooting, I ultimately discovered the solution. Instead of programmatically placing bs-slide-to on the next and previous indicators, which was causing the event handler to fire unexpectedly, I made the decision to remove the bs-slide-to and bs-slide attributes from those indicators. This successfully prevented the event from firing. Now, with those changes implemented, I am using a custom event handler and everything is functioning smoothly (fingers crossed).
