Using ValidationGroup to trigger JavaScript calls from controls

Is it possible to trigger a JavaScript function from the "onclientclick event" of a button that has a ValidationGroup assigned?

<asp:Button ID="btnTest" runat="server" Text="Test" OnClick="btnTest_Click"
                        ValidationGroup="ValidateMail" OnClientClick="javascript:return checkTest()" />

    <script>
    checkTest()
        {
            if(val)
                return true
            else
                return false
        }
    </script>

Answer №1

Seems like you're aiming to validate something when your button is clicked.

If that's the case, instead of performing validation within the button click handler, I recommend adding a validator and having it trigger your checkTest() function. Remember to assign the validator to the "ValidateMail" validation group and set CausesValidation="true" on the button.

This approach will ensure all validators in the ValidateMail group are activated.
