Obtain the current date in Javascript without any deviation

How can I retrieve the current date in the UTC - 7 timezone regardless of the user's location?

I've attempted various methods, but they all seem to begin with a local date. My goal is to ensure that users from any timezone receive the same date.

Answer №1

If you're looking to effectively manage Daylight Saving Time changes, I recommend leveraging a library like Moment Timezone.

An alternative option is utilizing Date.toLocaleString() for obtaining time information in a specific timezone.

function getTimeInTimezone(timezone) {
                return moment.tz(timezone);
            }

            /* Using moment timezone */
            let m = getTimeInTimezone("Etc/GMT+7");
            console.log("Time in UTC-7 (moment):", m.format("YYYY-MM-DD HH:mm:ss"));

            let d = new Date();
            console.log("Time in UTC-7 (toLocaleString):",  d.toLocaleString('en-GB', { timeZone: "Etc/GMT+7" }));

<script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/moment.js/2.24.0/moment.min.js"></script>
            <script src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/moment-timezone/0.5.25/moment-timezone-with-data-10-year-range.js"></script>
