Is it possible to track the onbeforeunload event using $watch in AngularJS?

As someone new to angularjs, I am currently facing a challenge with catching the onbeforeunload event. My objective is to provide a response to users when they attempt to leave the page. I hope to monitor the onbeforeunload event using $watch and trigger my message display function.

However, I am unsure of how to watch this event. Can anyone offer guidance on this matter? I appreciate any assistance that can be provided. Thank you.

Here's another approach to consider:

$scope.$on('$locationChangeStart', function( event ) {
    var response = confirm("Are you sure you want to leave this page?");
    if (!response) {
        event.preventDefault();
    }
});

You could also simplify it by removing $watch, which may not be necessary in this scenario. Instead, try something like:

$scope.$watch(function(){
        return $location.path();
}, function(newPath, oldPath){
   // Check for changes and trigger your alert function.
})
