Does a document.onmodification event exist, or something similar?

Is there a specific event in JavaScript that triggers whenever an element is added, removed, or modified?

Although lacking in detail, it is a straightforward question.

Answer №2

DOM mutation events can be accessed in most major browsers, although some events may not be fully supported across all browsers. For instance, the universal DOMSubtreeModified event is not universally available. Nonetheless, DOMNodeRemoved and DOMNodeInserted are commonly supported.

Here are a few things to consider:

  • Internet Explorer 8 and earlier do not provide support for these events.
  • Within editable content in WebKit browsers, all mutation events are asynchronous (such as when using contenteditable or designMode).
