Within Vuex, the object store.state.activities contains a specific key labeled "list" which initially holds an array of three items. However, when attempting to access store.state.activities.list directly, an empty array

My project is utilizing Vue.

The store.state.activities object contains 2 keys, including an array named list with 3 elements.

However, despite attempting to access it using store.state.activities.list, I am getting an empty array.

I have experimented with creating both shallow and deep copies of store.state.activities, but in each instance, the copied version has an empty list array as well.

This is the structure of store.state.activities:

{
    "list": [
        {
            // some data
        },
        {
            // some data
        },
        {
            // some data
        }
    ],
    "dictionaries": {}
}

Upon inspecting store.state.activities using

console.log(store.state.activities)
, it shows that list consists of 3 items: https://i.sstatic.net/yWMUD.png

Whereas accessing store.state.activities.list results in an empty array being displayed: https://i.sstatic.net/Zthts.png

Answer №1

In most cases, the reason for this issue is either improper initiation or access to Vuex.

Initiating

The initialization process usually takes place in your main file and should resemble something like this:

import { store } from "../store";
createApp(App)
  .use(store)
  .mount("#app");

Accessing

If you are using the Options API, you need to access the store through 'this' in the components, like so:

this.$store.state.activities

However, if you are utilizing the composition API, you must handle it differently since 'this' is not available. You can achieve this with the following code:

import {useStore} from "vuex"
...
setup(){
    const store = useStore();
    return {
        activities : computed(()=>store.state.activities),
    ...

If you simply import the defined store object, you will get an uninitialized version that does not reflect changes made.

If working with TypeScript, the code may vary slightly.

Another possible cause could be related to assigning values to the list property.

For example, if you are doing:

this.$store.state.activities.list = [{},{}.{}];

You are essentially replacing the list, breaking the reference. Instead, modifications should be made through a mutator function as Vuex wraps these changes in reactive wrappers that notify on watchers of any changes.

mutations: {
    setList(state, value) {
        state.activities.list = value;
    },
    ...
},

This would then be invoked as:

store.commit("setList", [{},{},{}]);
