What steps should I take if the slackbot is properly functioning after being invited to the channel?

Using an OAuth2 token

I am looking to automate the process of sending data from Google Sheets via Slackbot. Even though I have set up tokens and connections, I find that I still need to manually input the channel id into my script. In order to streamline this process, I would like to create a system where the bot automatically functions properly once invited to a channel, eliminating the need to add the channel id manually.

Answer №1

For those interested, explore the Events API at:

When setting it up, make sure to specify the URL where Slack will send the subscribed events.

The specific event you may be interested in is member_joined_channel. You'll receive this event whenever a user joins the channel (including your bot), so remember to check the userId to identify if it's your bot or not, and acknowledge the event accordingly.

I hope this information proves useful to you.
