What is the most effective way to extract individual digits from a string using JavaScript?

Currently, I am working on extracting individual digits from a randomly generated string of characters and then storing them in an array. For example:

Random String = eejhbf3u4du34uiwe93u8quiwe92oq

I would like my array to look like this:

number[0] = 3
number[1] = 4
number[2] = 3
number[3] = 4
number[4] = 9
number[5] = 3
number[6] = 8
number[7] = 9
number[8] = 2

Here is the code I currently have:

var singlenumbers = randomstring.match(/\d+/);

alert(singlenumbers);

Any suggestions or alternative approaches?

Answer №1

To capture every occurrence, utilize the /g flag:

let numbersList = randomString.match(/\d/g);

If needed, you can easily convert each match into a number using a straightforward map function:

numbersList = numbersList.map(function (num) { return num | 0 });

Answer №2

Array.prototype.forEach = String.prototype.forEach;
Array.prototype.getSingleDigits=function(){
    var newArr=[];
    this.forEach(function(item){
        if (!isNaN(parseInt(item))) newArr.push(item)
    });
    return newArr;
};

alert("a9s7d8f3g94hj".getSingleDigits())
