I am struggling to understand how Bootstrap darkens the background of a page when a modal is displayed. Even though a class is added to the body tag (modal-open), the effect on the background isn't clear to me.
I am struggling to understand how Bootstrap darkens the background of a page when a modal is displayed. Even though a class is added to the body tag (modal-open), the effect on the background isn't clear to me.
After utilizing a comparison tool to analyze the differences between the modal open and closed HTML, I uncovered the solution. When the modal is displayed, Bootstrap injects an empty div right before the closing body tag:
<div class="modal-backdrop fade show"></div>
Upon closing the modal, this div is removed. The .modal-backdrop.show
class features an opacity setting of 0.5.
And that's how it all comes together!
