What is the best way to set an object's value to null in AngularJS?

Check out this code snippet

var data={};

data={stdId:"101"};
data={empId:"102"};
data={deptId:"201"};

In my project, I'm receiving data from services into a data object with differing key names such as stdId or empId, etc.
I need to set empty values for keys like stdId or empId, etc., by doing something like data={stdId:""}.
The key names are determined dynamically based on the services being used.

Answer №1

Uncertain about the end goal of your task, but if you happen to be aware of the property name, you can utilize:

data['stdId'] = '';

or

data.stdId = '';

If you are unaware of the property name but still wish to preserve them on the object, you could try:

for(var prop in data) {
  if(data.hasOwnProperty(prop)) {
    data[prop] = '';
  }
}

Answer №2

One way to loop through a data object and manipulate its keys is by using the for..in loop.

for(var property in data){
  if(data.hasOwnProperty(property)){
     data[property] = '';
  }
}

Please be aware: This code snippet will assign an empty string to every property of the data object.

Answer №3

data.stdId = null;

Alternatively,

data.stdId = '';

Or maybe even

data = { stdId };

Did you give any of those a shot?

Answer №4

It seems like you're asking about how to handle objects where the key names are unknown and there is only one key per object. To address this issue:

data[Object.keys(data)[0]] = ''

By using this code, you can effectively set the value of the key to null.
