What is the best way to pull HTML content and insert it into a div container?

Can someone help me with transferring simple HTML content into another DIV? Whenever I try, all I get is [object HTMLDivElement]. What mistake am I making here?

this.inner = document.querySelector('div[data-v="1"]')
this.tail = document.querySelector('[data-tail]')
this.tail.innerHTML = this.inner
<div data-tail></div>
<div data-v="1">some content</div>

Answer №1

To retrieve the content, include .innerHTML.

document.querySelector('div[data-v="1"]')
points to the specified object.

this.inner = document.querySelector('div[data-v="1"]').innerHTML
this.tail = document.querySelector('[data-tail]')
this.tail.innerHTML = this.inner
<div data-tail></div>
<div data-v="1">some content</div>

Answer №2

Before doing anything else, be sure to take a look at this helpful resource. The querySelector() method in the Document returns the initial Element that corresponds with the specified selector or selectors. If no matches are discovered, null will be returned. Remember to utilize innerHTML correctly!

this.container = document.querySelector('div[data-v="1"]');
this.wrapper = document.querySelector('[data-wrapper]');
this.wrapper.innerHTML = this.container.innerHTML;

Answer №3

Transform it in this manner

this.tail.innerHTML = this.inner.innerHTML

It is clear that you cannot set an ElementNode as an HTML string.
