What is the best way to eliminate an Injected Script from my system?

I have added a script to my GWT Application using ScriptInjector

   ScriptInjector.fromUrl("js/jquery-1.7.2.min.js").setWindow(ScriptInjector.TOP_WINDOW).setCallback(new Callback<Void, Exception>()
        {

            @Override
            public void onSuccess(Void paramT)
            {
                ScriptInjector.fromUrl("js/viewer-2.2.1/WebViewer.min.js").setWindow(ScriptInjector.TOP_WINDOW).setCallback(new Callback<Void, Exception>()
                {

                    @Override
                    public void onSuccess(Void paramT)
                    {
                        ScriptInjector.fromString(getCreateInjection()).setWindow(ScriptInjector.TOP_WINDOW).setRemoveTag(false).inject();
                    }....

Now, is there a way in the application to remove this script that I injected earlier?

Answer №1

Basically, because of the way JavaScript functions, it is possible to achieve what you want by removing the script tag, but you may not be able to fully undo the effects of the code that has already run. Once the code is executed, you can't reverse it completely. While you can remove the script tag and possibly delete some created functions or types, any active code will continue to affect your page until it completes its task.

Instead, you should focus on understanding the JavaScript script utilized and look for ways to manage its impact like removing modified elements.

Both fromUrl and fromString variations rely on an inject() function, which results in a JavaScriptObject. This object represents the actual <script> tag - converting it to an Element and then using removeFromParent() will eliminate the script tag itself, but any alterations caused by the script will remain.

Another option could involve executing the script within its own <iframe> and carefully integrating it into the main page before removing the iframe. While this method simplifies eliminating exported functions, it won't reverse other side effects. To execute this approach successfully, a thorough understanding of the script's functionality is required - ideally supported by documentation or further clarification on your specific objective.
