What can be used as an alternative to the onkeypress event for touch events?

For my text fields, I am currently utilizing the onkeypress event to validate numbers exclusively. However, this method is not effective for mobile devices (the page is designed to be responsive for both desktop and mobile use).

Upon discovering that touch events are used in mobile view, I am seeking assistance with finding a suitable substitute for the onkeypress event. Can anyone offer guidance on this matter?

Answer №1

Give this a try for compatibility with mobile devices.

<html>
<body>
Input:: <input type="text" id="keyup" onkeyup="myFunction()">

<p id="demo"></p>

<script>
function myFunction() {
    var x = document.getElementById("keyup").value;
    document.getElementById("demo").innerHTML = x;
}
</script>

</body>
</html>

Answer №2

Have you considered using the onkeyup event listener?

const messageInput = document.getElementById('inputMessage');

messageInput.onkeyup = function() {
  document.getElementById('outputMessage').innerText = messageInput.value;
}
<label>Type a message:</label>
<input type="text" id='inputMessage'/>
<div>Output Message: <span id='outputMessage'></span></div>
