What can be done to avoid causing other elements to blur when clicking a button?

Imagine a scenario where there is a textarea and a button present.
If the button is clicked, typically the textarea will blur. However, in this case, I do not want that to happen.
I am seeking advice on how to prevent the textarea from blurring upon clicking the button.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! <> Thank you!

Answer №1

To ensure the button click focuses on the textarea instead, you can use the following code:

<textarea id="text-area" />
<button onClick="buttonClicked()" > Click Me </button>

<script>

    function buttonClicked() {
       document.getElementById("text-area").focus();
    }

</script>

Answer №2

To prevent the default action of the mousedown event on the button, you can use the following code:

<button v-on:mousedown="preventAction">Click Me</button>

Handler method to prevent default action:

methods: {
  preventAction(event) {
    event.preventDefault();
    event.stopPropagation();
  }
}

By cancelling the mousedown event on the button, you can ensure that the textarea will not lose focus when the button is clicked. Additionally, this approach still allows the click event to be triggered as expected.

Have you verified that the button Type attribute is set to "button"?
