Utilizing dat.gui sliders for rotating bones imported from Blender JSON/COLLADA files within three.js

Looking for guidance on manipulating bones in a json / collada file exported from Blender. Have been attempting this without success.

Seeking to incorporate sliders (via dat.gui) for rotating each bone individually.

Any pointers or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The end goal is to have a customizable human model where each bone and limb can be adjusted using dat.gui sliders.

Answer №1

According to the guidelines in the Dat.GUI documentation, the recommended way to create the GUI is as follows:

var gui = new dat.GUI();
document.body.appendChild( gui.domElement );

function addBoneSliders(bone) {
  var folder = gui.addFolder( bone.name );

  folder.add( bone.rotation, 'x' );
  folder.add( bone.rotation, 'y' );
  folder.add( bone.rotation, 'z' );
}

In your loader callback function, you can utilize the following code snippet:

collada.scene.traverse( function ( child ) {
  if ( child instanceof THREE.Bone ) {
    addBoneSliders( child );
  }
});

Although I haven't personally tested this implementation, it is expected to function correctly.
