Under what circumstances would window.location fail to function in a web browser? (excluding disabled JavaScript)

Is there a scenario where window.location may not function properly?

I have considered that certain older versions of Internet Explorer may block the javascript redirect due to security restrictions. Can anyone confirm this?

Are there any specific browsers or situations where setting window.location to a URL will not work as expected?

Answer №1

Yes, it should function properly in all browsers with JavaScript enabled.

window.location = 'http://example.com';

Have you thought about how you plan to implement it? If your method is unconventional, there may be compatibility issues with Internet Explorer.

Answer №2

When a redirect occurs within an iframe, the main page will remain unaffected by the redirection. This behavior is predictable and as intended.

Answer №3

In case of an error in another part of your code:

window.location="http://www.yahoo.com";
alert("error);

The absence of the closing " in the alert message will cause the JavaScript engine to stop executing any further code.
