Unable to retrieve the text enclosed between the:: before and after the:: marker

I attempted this using the XPATH finder in Chrome, and it highlighted the element. However, when running my Selenium script, I received the following error:

Caused by: org.openqa.selenium.NoSuchElementException: no such element:
Unable to locate element:

//span[@class='badge badge-pill message message-bot']//p[@class='card-text']

Answer №1

After the message-bot class, there is an added space.

Do you think this code could be effective?

//span[@class='badge badge-pill message message-bot ']//p[@class='card-text']

Answer №2

To obtain text content, simply add .text after the selector Give this CSS selector a shot:

.badge.badge-pill.message-bot>card-text

Therefore, your text selection will look like this:

result = driver.find_element_by_css_selector(".badge.badge-pill.message-bot>card-text").text

Alternatively,

result = driver.find_element_by_xpath("//span[@class='badge badge-pill message message-bot ']/p[@class='card-text']")

Most likely you only require one / before p. Experiment with both possibilities.
