Troubleshooting and Fixing AJAX Calls

When working with Asynchronous JavaScript, it is common to encounter issues where we are unsure of the posted request and received response.

Is there a simple method for debugging AJAX requests?

Answer №1

To easily view the request and response, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the website where you want to inspect the request and response using Chrome.
  2. Press F12 on your keyboard to open the Chrome extension.
  3. Select the Network tab.
  4. You will now see all requests and responses displayed. You can also check how long each request takes.

Answer №2

If you want to track each request, it is recommended to create a new object for every call:

let xhr;

    xhr = new XMLHttpRequest();
    xhr.id = (new Date()).getTime(); /* This is just an example and may not work if requests are made more than once per millisecond */

    xhr.onreadystatechange = function() {
        if (xhr.readyState == 4 && (xhr.status == 200)) {
            // Perform your desired actions here
            console.log(this.id);
        }
    }
