Transmit a data point from JavaScript to PHP

I am looking to transfer the address value to a different PHP page

<script>
    var userAddress = place.formatted_address;
    document.getElementById('af').innerHTML = userAddress;
</script>

Answer №1

PHP operates on the server while Javascript functions on the client side. Therefore, it is not possible to directly assign a PHP variable with the value of a Javascript variable without transferring the data to the server. However, you can assign a Javascript variable with the value of a PHP variable:

<script type="text/javascript">
  var bar = '<?php echo $bar ?>';
</script>

If you want to send a Javascript value to PHP, you would need to utilize AJAX. Using jQuery, the process might resemble the following (in its most basic form):

var valueToSend = 'bar';
$.post('file.php', {variable: valueToSend});

On the server side, you must then capture the posted variable:

$receivedVariable = $_POST['variable'];
