Help needed: Issue with TypeError - Expected a function at debounce when calling a class method in the lodash debounce
class Foo {
bar() {
console.log('bar');
}
}
const foo = new Foo();
_.debounce = debounce(foo.bar(), 300);
The reason behind this behavior is due to the way JavaScript processes your code. Initially, it executes the function foo.bar()
, performs its actions, and then uses the return value of the function as the initial parameter for the debounce
function. In your case, since there was no return value, the initial argument for the function defaulted to undefined
, which is not a callable function. This occurred because you mistakenly used parentheses () to call the function instead of passing it as an argument.
To resolve this issue, you need to eliminate the parentheses. By doing so, you will be passing a reference to the function to the debounce
method, rather than invoking it directly. Subsequently, the code within debounce will correctly execute the function that was passed as a reference, carrying out its intended tasks.
