Tips on emphasizing the mouse pointer location in three.js

Looking for a way to display a circle on top of a .fbx model rendered in ThreeJS based on the mouse-pointer's position. Struggling to find an example. Is this accomplished through shaders? If so, how can it be done?

Answer №1

To transform a 2D screen point into a real 3D point in model space, raycasting is necessary. I highly recommend checking out the official examples for the best guidance.

For interactive points, explore this link: webgl interactive points

To delve deeper into interactive raycasting points, visit: interactive raycasting points.

For faster and more efficient raycasting using GPU power with minor bugs, consider utilizing GPUPicker from here.

If you want to implement lighting effects, shader and shader material play a crucial role. Check out an example here.
