The problem with 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' on themoviedb

Is anyone else experiencing an issue with the themoviedb api?

When trying to load , I receive the error message: "XMLHttpRequest cannot load. No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin '' is therefore not allowed access."

I remember this working without needing to adjust Chrome's cross-domain policy. Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

Answer №1

If you're using Angular, don't forget to include a callback parameter:

http://api.themoviedb.org/3/search/tv?api_key=XXX&query=mr.%20robot&callback=test

Make sure to handle the JSONP callbacks according to Angular's specifications.

Answer №2

Here's a solution that worked for me:

const endpoints = {
    fetchTrending : 'https://api.themoviedb.org/3/trending/all/week?api_key=${API_KEY}&language=en-US'
}

Rather than storing the base URL in axios.js, use the format above to eliminate the need for axios.js altogether. Please note: Ensure you import axios globally when making API calls. I hope this workaround proves helpful.

Answer №3

You should consider installing the Google Chrome extension called Allow-Control-Allow-Origin. It could potentially be beneficial for your situation.

Answer №4

This issue is a result of CORS

More information on CORS here

  • To tackle this, you can utilize the Chrome extension to activate this feature
  • Disable web security option

However, these solutions are specific to your device. To make it work across all devices, consider setting up a proxy file or opt for the JSONP version.

Read more about API specifications here

In the latest API version (v3), only JSON format is supported. XML and YAML support has been discontinued. JSONP is also officially endorsed—simply include a callback parameter in your request for encapsulated response.

Since an API key is required for fetching data, utilizing a proxy file to obtain it is recommended.
