The Angular Material Datepicker lacks any selected date

I am currently in the process of developing a web application using Angular and incorporating Angular Material for certain UI components. I have encountered an issue that I am unable to resolve. When attempting to use the datepicker as outlined on https://material.angularjs.org/latest/demo/datepicker, the popup opens but remains blank. https://i.sstatic.net/8MipC.png

Below is the code snippet for the datepicker.

<md-datepicker ng-model="vm.registrationData.birthDate"
                                   md-placeholder="{{'start_register_birth_date' | translate}}"
                                   required></md-datepicker>
                    <div class="error-message"
                         ng-messages="registerForm.birthDate.$error"
                         ng-if="registerForm.birthDate.$touched && registerForm.birthDate.$invalid">
                        <div class="arrow-right"></div>
                        <p ng-message="required">{{'start_register_error_birthDate_required' | translate}}</p>
                    </div>

Could there possibly be an issue with my imports?

To avoid issues with prebinding of controllers, consider using an older version of Angular such as 1.5.9. The latest version, Angular 1.6, disables this functionality.

For more information, refer to Issue #10168. You can also try adding the following code snippet:

angular.module('myApp', [])
  .config(function($compileProvider) {
    $compileProvider.preAssignBindingsEnabled(true);
  });

However, it is recommended to stick with Angular 1.5.9 unless absolutely necessary.
