setTimeout(function(){

Show the message initially and then remove it after a 3-second delay.
document.getElementById("alarmmsg").innerHTML = msg;
setTimeout(function(){
document.getElementById("alarmmsg").innerHTML = '';
}, 3000);
Instead of physically removing it from the element, you are instructing the browser to wait for 3 seconds and then update the innerHTML
of alarmmsg
with your variable content.
setTimeout(function () {
document.getElementById("alarmmsg").innerHTML = msg;
}, 3000);
// After 3 seconds, clear alarmmsg's content.
document.getElementById("alarmmsg").innerHTML = "";
