Does anyone have a solution as to why window.location.href does not save the current webpage URL as a bookmark?

Thank you

Answer №1

This script is cross-compatible, functioning correctly in both Firefox and Internet Explorer.

function GenerateBookmark() {

 title = "Example Webpage Title";
 //or use document.title to dynamically get the page title

 url = "Example Webpage URL";
 //or use location.href to capture the current URL

if (window.sidebar) { // Bookmark for Mozilla Firefox
    window.sidebar.addPanel(title, url,"");
} else if( window.external ) { // Favorite for IE
    window.external.AddFavorite(url, title); }

}

Source

<a href="javascript:GenerateBookmark()">Click to Bookmark This Page</a>

Answer №2

This alternative code should be utilized...

javascript:window.external.AddFavorite(location.href, document.title);
