retrieve data properties from an object

Suppose I have the following setup:

var myObj = [
  { name: 'A', number: 'b1', level: 0 },
  { name: 'B', number: 'b2', level: 0 },
];

I need to figure out how to retrieve all the names and format them like this:

"names": {
  'A',
  'B'
}

Answer №1

To retrieve an array of values instead of object properties, you can utilize the following function:

function extractColumn(arr, column) {
    return arr.map(function (element) { return element[column] });
}

// Sample data
var myData = [
  { fruit: 'apple', color: 'red', quantity: 10 },
  { fruit: 'banana', color: 'yellow', quantity: 6 },
];

// Extract colors
var colors = extractColumn(myData, 'color');

// Display output
console.log(colors);
