Pinterest's "Pin it" button causing issues with the 'back' function in Internet Explorer

Recently, I discovered a problem with the "Pin it" button for Pinterest in Internet Explorer (v9 at least). It seems that this button is causing issues with the 'back' functionality in the browser. When right-clicking on it, an entry like '' appears as the previous page.

It appears that Pinterest is utilizing an iFrame which Internet Explorer then adds to the history. Unfortunately, clicking 'back' does not have any effect. Is there a known solution to this issue?

After examining the code, I found a temporary solution to disable logging for the 'pin it' button. You can modify the <script> call like this:

<script type="text/javascript" src="//assets.pinterest.com/js/pinit.js" data-pin-do-not-log="true"></script>

Although this method didn't work for me because I load the script asynchronously using a load command. I ended up downloading the pinit.js file and hosted it on my server. Then, I made a modification in the code from:

if(a.v.config["do-not-log"]||a.a.doNotLog===true)

to

if(a.v.config["do-not-log"]||a.a.doNotLog===true||true)

It seems like there is some logging activity happening in an iframe.

I encountered a similar issue and managed to resolve it by including the website in my list of restricted sites. I accessed the settings by clicking on "Tools", then selecting "Internet options", followed by "Security". This simple change seemed to have fixed the issue for me.

I've brought this up with Pinterest over at

Their response was quite dismissive.

After we introduced the new Pin It button, there was a minor glitch that has since been resolved. We quickly removed the logging frame once it was brought to our attention. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused!
