Move object remains fixed at specific distance/radius from camera perspective

In my current setup, there is a camera positioned in the center of the scene. There is also a sphere located at a distance of z=400 from the camera, with its parent object situated in the center as well.

My goal is to be able to manipulate the sphere by dragging it up, down, left or right within the view, while ensuring that its z-position relative to the center remains unchanged.

Answer №1

After some experimentation, I decided to incorporate a second sphere as an invisible object. By including the side: THREE.DoubleSide property in the material, I was able to utilize it for raycasting purposes.
