Managing JavaScript expiration time in API responses

Seeking help with a JavaScript API I'm new to. The response I received contains a timestamp, which seems like it's in milliseconds. I want to format this time for a countdown but I'm not sure what these milliseconds are referring to. I know how to convert milliseconds to HH/MM/SS, but the reference point is unclear to me: Milliseconds from X. I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer. Can someone please explain what these milliseconds are referring to? Thank you!

API Response:

Object
data:"[]"
deal_expiration_time:1469396377 //<------------ HERE
store_id:107645

This represents the number of seconds since epoch started. Check out this website for more information on current milliseconds

$ date -d @1469396377

Calculating seconds since 1970 in JavaScript is simple. Since JavaScript deals with milliseconds, all you need to do is multiply the value by 1000 as shown below:

var date = new Date(1469396377 * 1000);

var day = date.getDate();
var month = date.getMonth() + 1;
var year = date.getFullYear();

document.getElementById('raw').textContent = date;
document.getElementById('result').textContent = month + '/' + day + '/' + year;
<div id="raw"></div>
<div id="result"></div>
