Leverage ng-value attribute when working with radio buttons in AngularJS

I have recently started working with AngularJS and I am trying to create a selection using radio buttons that will save as a boolean value. However, when I use ng-value, the value saved in the database is null. Here is the HTML code:

<label><input type="radio" ng-model="information" ng-value="TRUE" name="maklumat">Yes</label><br />
<label><input type="radio" ng-model="information" ng-value="FALSE" name="maklumat">False</label>

Answer №1

The problem lies in the entries you provided for the ng-value attribute, simply convert them to lowercase as demonstrated below.

<label>
    <input type="radio" ng-model="information" ng-value="true" name="maklumat">Yes
</label>
<br />
<label>
    <input type="radio" ng-model="information" ng-value="false" name="maklumat">False
</label>

Example on Fiddle

UPDATE 1

The reason it is being saved as null is because it's attempting to use the value FALSE which is undefined.

Answer №2

ng-value requires a specific AngularJS expression to assign to ngModel when the radio button is chosen.

It's important to note that expressions are case-sensitive. For example, using ng-value="true" will set the value of ng-model to true, while using ng-value="TRUE" will attempt to access $scope.TRUE which doesn't exist and hence sets ng-model to null.

See this example:

angular.module('radioExample', [])
  .controller('ExampleController', ['$scope', function($scope) {
    $scope.TRUE = "something totally different"
    $scope.specialValue = {
      "id": "12345",
      "value": "green"
    };
  }]);
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">

<head>
  <meta charset="UTF-8>
  <title>Example - example-radio-input-directive-production</title>
  <script src="//code.angularjs.org/snapshot/angular.min.js></script>
</head>

<body ng-app="radioExample">

  <form name="myForm" ng-controller="ExampleController">
    <label>
    <input type="radio" ng-model="color.name" ng-value="specialValue">
    SpecialValue
  </label><br/>

    <label>
    <input type="radio" ng-model="color.name" ng-value="true">
    true
  </label><br/>

    <label>
    <input type="radio" ng-model="color.name" ng-value="TRUE">
    TRUE
  </label><br/><br/>

    <tt>color = {{color.name | json}}</tt><br/>

  </form>

  <br><br/><br/> Please note that `ng-value="specialValue"` assigns the value of `$scope.specialValue` to the radio item.
</body>
</html>
