JavaScript data structure similar to ListOrderedMap/ArrayMap

Does anyone know of a JavaScript data structure that functions similarly to ListOrderedMap? I need it to have the capability to add an object at a specific index, retrieve the index for a given object, and lookup an object by its id. Unfortunately, all the libraries I've come across so far do not offer the ability to add an object at a designated index.

Answer №1

Isn't it interesting? JavaScript offers robust support for arrays, collections with keys, and their combinations.

function LMA() {
    this.objects = {}
    this.indices = []
}

LMA.prototype.addToCollection = function(myObject, identifier, position) {
   this.objects[identifier]  = myObject
   this.indices[position] = identifier
}

LMA.prototype.getObjectByIndex = function(position) {
    return this.objects[this.indices[position]]
}

Putting it into practice:

? example = new LMA

? example.addToCollection("xyz", "ABCD", 5)

? example.objects.ABCD
    xyz

? example.getObjectByIndex(5)
    xyz

Answer №2

When it comes to data structures, JavaScript lacks the functionality needed for some tasks. One alternative is to turn to GWT and leverage the Java source code found in ListOrderedMap.java.
