Issue with Canvas rendering functionality

Having some trouble testing my app with canvasrenderer as a backup for webgl. I'm having difficulty getting it to start properly.

renderer = new THREE.CanvasRenderer();
console.log('renderer', renderer);
renderer.sortObjects = true
renderer.setClearColor( 0xffffff );
renderer.setSize(window.innerWidth, window.innerHeight);
document.body.appendChild(renderer.domElement);

I've added the

CanvasRenderer.js

from examples. However, an error is being thrown from CanvasRenderer.js

Uncaught TypeError: undefined is not a function

at line 83, which reads:

_v5 = new THREE.RenderableVertex(),

If you're working with the latest version of THREE.JS, it's possible that you don't actually need the canvas renderer. I've personally used CanvasRenderer without the specific js file for it. Perhaps you could experiment by removing the canvasrenderer.js from your project?
