Is there a content delivery network (CDN) link available for the object spread polyfill in Javascript?

Can someone help me find a polyfill for the object spread operator in javascript? I'm looking for either a cdn link or a method to achieve this using es5 javascript.

var x = {
  example: 456,
  sample: 789
}

var y = {
  ...x,
  result: 321
}

Answer №1

No, it is not possible to polyfill object spread since it is a syntax feature and not an object or method that can be polyfilled. However, you can transpile the code using Babel: http://babeljs.io/

"use strict";

function _objectSpread(target) {
  for (var i = 1; i < arguments.length; i++) {
    var source = arguments[i] != null ? arguments[i] : {};
    var ownKeys = Object.keys(source);
    if (typeof Object.getOwnPropertySymbols === "function") {
      ownKeys = ownKeys.concat(
        Object.getOwnPropertySymbols(source).filter(function(sym) {
          return Object.getOwnPropertyDescriptor(source, sym).enumerable;
        })
      );
    }
    ownKeys.forEach(function(key) {
      _defineProperty(target, key, source[key]);
    });
  }
  return target;
}

function _defineProperty(obj, key, value) {
  if (key in obj) {
    Object.defineProperty(obj, key, {
      value: value,
      enumerable: true,
      configurable: true,
      writable: true
    });
  } else {
    obj[key] = value;
  }
  return obj;
}

var i = {
  test: 123,
  test1: 5234
};

var b = _objectSpread({}, i, {
  test3: 243
});

Although it may look ugly, this approach will work and can be done automatically.

In the case of needing a polyfill for Object.assign, you can do so by including the following script:

var b = Object.assign({}, i, { test3: 243 });

Before, the spread/rest operator was considered invalid syntax. To apply it, you must convert the syntax into a valid form.
