Is Softbody possible in WebGL using Three.js?

Are there ways to combine softbody physics with WebGL or threejs? Could I possibly incorporate the PhysX engine into the mix?

I am looking to animate a 3d rigid body inside a 3d soft body and have the soft body react to the movement. Ideally, the soft body would exhibit plastic properties similar to clay.

Is it feasible to achieve this effect?

Any guidance or suggestions would be immensely helpful.

There are a number of 3D physics engines available such as ammo.js, cannon.js, oimo.js, and goblin physics. These engines have been facing challenges with implementing soft bodies.

The bullet engine in ammo.js has the ability to handle soft bodies, although it has not been officially implemented yet. For more information, refer to https://github.com/kripken/ammo.js/issues/83 and https://github.com/kripken/ammo.js/issues/13.

Cannon.js does not have an official example demonstrating soft bodies, but a github topic showcases a softbody demo that was posted over 2 years ago at .

I have not come across similar soft body implementations in other physics engines. Physijs, for example, is only a wrapper for ammo.js and does not offer standalone soft body support.

Take a look at this fascinating showcase created with whitestorm.js. Stay tuned for the official release of the stable version of this engine. In the meantime, you can access the beta version (which is almost stable) on GitHub.
