Is it possible to update the version of a dependency for a package that already exists?

Attempting to install the stanford-corenlp package on my Ubuntu 14.04 system is proving tricky. The installation process keeps trying to add node-java 0.5.5 as a dependency, resulting in node-gyp errors.

After researching this issue, I discovered that updating to a newer version of node-java, such as 0.6.1, resolves the problem. However, I am unsure how to update the dependency to successfully install the stanford-corenlp package.

Answer №1

include the following line in the 'dependencies' section of your package.json file:

"node-java": "^0.6.1"

After adding this entry, execute the command npm install. This will ensure that the correct version of node-java is installed.

Next, attempt to install standford-corenlp. If they have not specified a specific version of node-java in their package.json file, you should be good to go.
