Is it possible to retrieve the code behind property in JavaScript?

How can I incorporate a C# code behind property into a JavaScript alert(<%= someProperty%>);? I've been trying to make it work but it's not happening. Any suggestions on how to successfully include the codebehind property in the JavaScript? Thank you!

Answer №1

Maybe this approach could help in your specific scenario - consider attaching the javascript dynamically to events using code behind during page load, where you can then set parameter values accordingly.

For instance:

btnSubmit.Attributes.Add("onclick","alert(" + someProperty + ");");

Answer №2

Perhaps consider this alternative approach: alert('<%= someProperty%>');

Answer №3

Perhaps this idea is a bit unconventional. Did you experiment with

alert("<%= someProperty%>");

?

Answer №4

If you want to utilize the <%= => ASP.NET expressions, it is important to note that your Javascript code should not be stored in an external .js file. Instead, it must be included within the ASPX markup for the scriptlet to function correctly.

<head>
  <script type="text/javascript">
    alert(escape('<%=someProperty%>'));
  </script>
</head>

Warm regards...

One way to bridge the gap between C# code behind properties and JavaScript properties is by utilizing the ClientScript.RegisterExpandoAttribute method.
