Is it possible to add my own designs to a three.js model?

I am looking to add some personal touches to my three.js model by drawing on it in the scene. How can I achieve this effect of 'graffiti' on my models within the scene?

Answer №1

Check out this demonstration

You can utilize a 2D canvas as a texture for the object you wish to "paint" on

var canvas = document.createElement('canvas');
var texture = new THREE.Texture(canvas);
var material = new THREE.MeshBasicMaterial( {map: texture, side:THREE.DoubleSide } );
var mesh = new THREE.Mesh(
    new THREE.PlaneGeometry(canvas.width, canvas.height),
    material
  );

Remember to update the texture when changing the canvas content.

For an example of Render-To-Texture (RTT), take a look at This demonstrates a similar process using a 3D scene instead of a canvas.
