Is it possible for me to access an ICS file through webcal and input events without subscribing first?

By utilizing the webcal protocol, I am able to serve my own Ics file. Upon accessing the link, a notification prompts me to subscribe to this URL.

Could it be feasible to alter the ICS file format so that it directly opens the events without requiring a subscription? This would mimic the behavior of opening an ICS file without going through the webcal access.

Answer №1

Hey Shelef, I'm afraid the ics format doesn't support those kinds of actions.

If you're interested in viewing the raw ics file, try pasting the ics url directly into your browser's address bar and adjust your browser settings to open .ics files using a text editor (like notepad++). That's how I usually handle it on my end!

If you're adding the .ics url through iCloud's calendar feature, then yes, you'll likely be prompted to subscribe to the calendar. It's just part of how iCloud functions.

Another thing to keep in mind is that webcal is an unofficial Apple protocol for .ics files. The official one is RC5545 using http/s.
