Integrating various shapes with d3

I'm working with a collection of shapes in D3 that have clear borders and are saved in png format. Despite thinking it should be a straightforward process, I'm struggling to incorporate them into my project. I've scoured the internet and Stack Overflow for guidance on how to do this, but haven't been able to find a solution. Could someone offer some advice on how to proceed?

When working with SVG shapes, they can be loaded either as paths or as predefined shapes such as circles, ellipses, and rectangles, each with specific attributes that define their size.

For loading png images, the process involves adding an image to the SVG like so:

newImage = svg.append("svg:image")
.attr("xlink:href", "../pathToYourImage.png")
.attr("width", 280)
.attr("height", 280);
