Identify the credit card as either American Express or American Express Corporate

My JavaScript code can successfully detect credit card types, but I have encountered an issue. I am unable to differentiate between American Express and American Express Corporate cards. Is there a way to distinguish them or is it impossible to identify when the user is using an American Express Corporate card?

Thank you

Answer №1

The identification number of the issuer (IIN), typically found in the first six digits of a card number, is used to identify the issuing institution. Despite this standard practice, some major card issuers like American Express can be identified with fewer than six digits.

American Express often utilizes the last four digits of the IIN to indicate the type of card. While there are lists online that claim to provide this information, such as this one, their accuracy cannot be guaranteed. It's important to note that these sources may be outdated and unreliable.

These articles suggest specific ranges of numbers that may signify a corporate card from American Express in various countries:

  • 374996 - FR
  • 375790 - SE
  • 3758** - CH

Speculation aside, it's possible that Wikipedia removed these details due to inaccuracies or difficulties in keeping up-to-date with constant changes in card offerings. Unfortunately, this leaves us with limited reliable resources.

If you're seeking accurate and current information on American Express card types, contacting the company directly would likely yield more reliable results.
