I've been searching for a comprehensive guide to spidermonkey's bytecodes for some time now, or at least something that gives me an overview of their purpose.
Does anyone know of a good resource for this?
Thank you!

Although it may not be the most exciting tale, our best source of documentation (besides jsopcode.tbl
, as mentioned by Alex K.) is the interpreter implementation (jsinterp.cpp
). We have acknowledged on multiple occasions that newcomers would benefit from a more formalized document outlining stack state transitions and explaining side effects. I have taken the initiative to create one here:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/SpiderMonkey/Bytecodes
If you have any specific bytecodes you would like to see documented, feel free to join #jsapi on irc.mozilla.org and ask!
Access the source code and check the file jsopcode.tbl
, which can be found at this link (possibly a modified version).
Several of the hyperlinks provided in previous responses are no longer functioning correctly; if you're looking for a comprehensive list of opcodes in the SpiderMonkey embedder docs repository, check out this link. The information is sourced directly from the original codebase.
