Exploring immersive virtual reality websites with a complete full-screen 3D experience

As I work on building a virtual reality website, I find myself pondering a challenging question: how can we seamlessly transition users from experiencing one VR website in full screen stereoscopic view to another, all without disrupting their immersive experience? Is this even feasible? This is my vision for the future of the "VR" web, but I recognize there may be obstacles along the way. Thank you for your insights.

Answer №1

In the current iterations of the webvr API (), websites have the ability to trigger VR mode using the requestPresent function if a VR headset is connected. However, this functionality still falls short in providing a seamless link traversal experience. Websites struggle to determine which headset was previously utilized to deliver content appropriately. Although a set of events has been proposed for this purpose, full implementation by browsers is still pending. It is likely that further specifications will be necessary to outline how browsers should manage link traversal, including methods for informing users of URL changes, addressing content or HTTP errors, and handling transitions between sites when the new page is loading.
