Encountering a problem with Vue when running the node-rdkafka package

I added node-rdkafka to my project using the command npm install node-rdkafka.

Then, I included it in my code like this:

import Kafka from 'node-rdkafka';

  created() {
    console.log(Kafka.features);
  }

An error occurred when running npm run dev.

    ERROR in ./node_modules/node-rdkafka/lib/kafka-consumer-stream.js 14:15-41

BREAKING CHANGE: webpack < 5 used to include polyfills for node.js core modules by default.
This is no longer the case. Verify if you need this module and configure a polyfill for it.

If you want to include a polyfill, you need to:
        - add a fallback 'resolve.fallback: { "stream": require.resolve("stream-browserify") }'
        - install 'stream-browserify'
If you don't want to include a polyfill, you can use an empty module like this:

Answer №1

To address the issue, I simply included the code snippet in my webpack.config.js.

        fallback: {
            "stream": false,
            "fs": false,
            "tls": false,
            "net": false,
            "path": false,
            "zlib": false,
            "http": false,
            "https": false,
            "stream": false,
            "crypto": false,
            "crypto-browserify": require.resolve('crypto-browserify'),
        }
