Determine if the user input matches a specific string exactly

I am trying to verify if a user enters an exact string, but I'm running into issues. I have attempted some of the recommendations in similar questions, but I am still unable to resolve it.

function check() {

var correctAnswer ="Hey there";

  var userAnswer = document.getElementById("#ans").value;

if (correctAnswer == userAnswer) {
    alert('Yes, that is correct');
} else {
    alert('No, try again');
}
}

HTML
<form>
  <fieldset>
    <input type="text" name="Textbox" value="" id="ans"><br>

    <input type="submit" value="Submit" id="test" onClick=" return check()">
  </fieldset>
</form>

Answer №1

It appears that the issue lies in passing # in document.getElementById function.

Refer to the code snippet below for guidance:

HTML seems to be correct.

<form>
<fieldset>
<input type="text" name="Textbox" value="" id="ans"><br>

<input type="submit" value="Submit" id="test" onClick=" return check()">
</fieldset>
</form>

However, you need to update your JavaScript to the following:

function check() {

var ans1 ="Hey there";

var ans2 = document.getElementById("ans").value;

if (ans1== ans2){ alert('yes kit')}

else{alert ('no')};

}
