Design a custom favicon for a website link associated with JavaScript

On my website, I have a JavaScript link that users can choose to drag to their browser's link bar. However, since there is no associated site with a Favicon, the link always appears with a blank icon. Is there a way to associate a Favicon with it at the moment the user drags it? I'm mainly looking for a solution for Firefox, but one for IE would also be appreciated.

Answer №1

Surprisingly, there is a neat trick in Firefox that allows you to customize icons using the cool Favicon Picker 2 addon. I personally use this feature to give my bookmarklets unique icons on both my shortcut bar and bookmarks.

Answer №2

As far as I know, there is currently no known method for accomplishing this task. In my experience with Firefox, all of my bookmarklets simply lead to blank pages.

One alternative approach would be to link to an HTML file hosted on a server that includes a favicon and solely consists of the desired script.
