Could you explain the contrast among "yarn serve," "yarn start," and "yarn build"?

Although both "yarn serve" and "yarn start" can launch my Vue project, I'm unsure of the differences between them.

I've heard that "yarn build" is for packaging, but why don't I use it at work? Usually, I just upload my code to git and let my backend colleagues handle publishing it online (I'm a bit confused about this process).

(I believe my question was clear, so why should I close it? I have nothing else to add.)

Answer №1

yarn serve and yarn start both execute scripts outlined in your package.json file (additional details may be needed for confirmation) which have the same functionality.

However, what exactly is packaging and why is it not utilized in my professional environment?

Packaging involves eliminating unnecessary (npm) packages for production purposes. It also involves executing scripts to reduce, obscure, and compile Javascript or (S)CSS files. Ultimately, this process results in a smaller bundle of .js, .css, and .html files that can be deployed on hosting platforms.
