Converting a Unix timestamp to a formatted date string in Firebase: A step-by-step guide

Is there a way to change a timestamp from 1333699439 to the format 2008-07-17T09:24:17?

For now, I have been utilizing Firebase.ServerValue.TIMESTAMP for timestamps in Firebase.

Answer №1

When the server returns the timestamp in seconds, you will need to multiply by one thousand in order to get the time stamp in milliseconds. It can be done like so:

var myDate = new Date(timestamp*1000);
var formattedTime = myDate.toJSON();

The variable formattedTime will now be in the required format.

Answer №2

One way to achieve this is by utilizing the javascript Date object.

let myDate = new Date(millisTimestamp * 1000);
