Chrome's latest update causing problems with Three.js

Today, I launched my Chrome browser to find that it had automatically updated to the latest version: 17.0.963.46.

However, after the update, I encountered issues with my three.js project as the textures (images *.png) were not loading properly.

I attempted to run the same project on FireFox and while it worked, it was very slow.

Does anyone have insight into what may be causing this bug or issue?

Answer №1

Recently, I encountered issues running my projects in three.js directly from the browser. It seemed like everything was working perfectly when I previewed it in eclipse, but once I opened it in Chrome, the textures were missing. After doing some research, I came across a post mentioning that certain texture formats may not load properly if the project is being accessed from a directory on the hard drive instead of an actual web server. This was surprising to me because I always assumed that images could be loaded from the HD without any internet connection. However, following the advice given, I set up Apache2 on my Linux box and accessed the project from localhost, and just like magic, the textures appeared as they should.
