Changes are being made to how Date objects stored in Firestore behave, which could potentially cause disruptions in your app

Currently encountering an issue while working on VueJs where I am struggling to log data from Firebase. Despite making code adjustments based on the console's recommendations, nothing seems to be working as expected. My setup involves using Vue Cli 3 and Firebase version 5.5.9.

<script>
import db from './firebaseInit'
export default {
name: 'dashboard',
    data(){
        return{
            employees: []
        }
    },
    created(){
        db.collection('employees').get().then
        (querySnapshot => {
            querySnapshot.forEach(doc => {
                console.log(doc.data())
                const data = {

                }
            })
        })
    }
}
</script>

The provided firebaseInit.js snippet:

import firebase from 'firebase'

import 'firebase/firestore'
import firebaseConfig from './firebaseConfig'
const firebaseApp = firebase.initializeApp(firebaseConfig)

// const firestore = firebase.firestore();
// const settings = {timestampsInSnapshots: true};
// firestore.settings(settings);
export default firebaseApp.firestore()

Answer №1

In order to properly handle date/timestamp fields, it is crucial to initialize the firestore object with the appropriate instructions. This requirement is highlighted in the error message as well as detailed in this GitHub issue.

To address this issue, follow these steps:

import firebase from 'firebase'

import 'firebase/firestore'
import firebaseConfig from './firebaseConfig'
const firebaseApp = firebase.initializeApp(firebaseConfig)

const firestore = firebase.firestore();
const settings = {timestampsInSnapshots: true};
const api = firestore.settings(settings);
export default api;

Answer №2

import firebase from "firebase";
import "firebase/firestore";
import firebaseConfig from "./firabaseConfig.js";

const initFirebase = () => {
    const firebaseApp = firebase.initializeApp(firebaseConfig);
    firebaseApp.firestore().settings({ timestampsInSnapshots: true });
    return firebaseApp.firestore();
}

export default initFirebase();

This code snippet has worked well for me in the past. Feel free to give it a try! :)
