Can you explain the distinction between window.location.hash and just location.hash?

In many Javascript scripts, I frequently come across mentions of window.location.hash and location.hash (using "hash" as an example). Can someone explain the distinction between these two calls, as they appear to produce the same outcome to me?

Answer №1

In web browsers, the object window serves as the global object. This means that if a variable is not declared or qualified, the browser will automatically search for it within the window object. Therefore, both window.location and location refer to the same object, unless a specific variable named location has been defined within a specific scope.
